At literally every wedding that I’ve shot, there always is a unique moment that makes it stand out from the rest – whether it happens before the wedding, the ceremony, en route to the reception or some time during the evening celebrations. After shooting the engagement session for AJay and Karishma, I wondered what moment would define their celebration from a photographer’s perspective. Shortly through the day, I realized that at this wedding, there would definitely be more than one.
As luck would have it, nobody had brought a USB cable for the limo so we were stuck with whatever the limo had left behind en route to the temple…which in this case was a CD from DJ Khaled. Despite this, what could’ve been viewed as a disaster, the journey turned into a blast. By the time the limo had pulled up to the temple, everyone was belting the chorus from Brown Paper Bag, haha.
As the ceremony ended, we had all planned to take photos outdoors before the reception began. Literally moments after, the skies opened up and rained down HARD just long enough to nix those plans. We decided to head back to the hotel and take advantage of its gorgeous interior design. Although at first it seemed like a ‘Plan B’ type of situation, the photos proved to all of us that it was the right choice all along.

The reception was put together beautifully…and I wholeheartedly have to admit the food was incredible, haha. Aside from one of the more hilarious and heartfelt best man speeches I have ever heard, I was honored that they chose to use a song that I had introduced them to for their first dance – Boyce Avenue’s cover of “Only Girl in the World” (click HERE to check it out). In addition to this, select engagement photos were used for numbering the tables throughout the hall.
It was also a pleasure to work with Chris Kim, Henry Wu and Kevin Law for the first time. It is always amazing when you can gel so seamlessly with fellow videographers and assistant photogs and learn from each other in the process. I have a feeling this team will come together again in the future.
Huge thanks are owed to AJay and Karishma for allowing UMG the opportunity to shoot their gorgeous wedding – I can’t wait to get through the entirety of your photos to give to you! Congratulations again on your celebration and I hope we get the chance to work with you both in the near future!
