Naturally Smart

The other day I was pleasantly surprised to find my new Thinksound headphones had arrived in the mail. Gotta give props to Jess for introducing the brand to me – thanks for the heads up!! After all the hype about these eco-friendly ‘phones, I was super excited to break them in and give them a try. Naturally (as you can see), I had to take them to the studio and snap a few photos…these things are BEAUTIFUL. For those of you looking to pick up some new headphones for you or for someone during the holiday season, all of Thinksound’s offerings would be PERFECT.

The Clear Difference. thinksound™ began with a simple goal; to create incredible sounding headphones with the smallest eco-footprint possible. Our headphones are made with real wood, creating a more natural resonance and unparalleled acoustics.

We take our environmental impact as serious as we do our audio products. Our packaging is crafted from recycled materials, with minimal plastic components. We also use PVC-free cables and choose our wood from renewable sources. The result is great sound that you can feel good about.

For the last several years, thinksound™ engineers and designers have been perfecting their unique line of earphones. Each and every component and material has been chosen with care. Only the finest quality components make it into a thinksound™ product.

Make It Rain. I have been on the hunt for headphones for awhile now going back and forth between a ton of options before confidently springing for a pair of the Thinksound Rain – their “premium sound” headphones. Here’s how I broke down the criteria:

1. Sound Quality. (who doesn’t want this?) It’s probably the most basic criteria since that’s what they should be for, but big sound often comes with big price tags. I found myself looking straight at the Denon AH-D5000s for a true audiophile reproduction – but I wasn’t exactly eager about shelling out $600 for a pair of headphones. On the complete opposite end, the Apple In-Ear Headphones were $79 and promised “superior acoustic accuracy, balance and clarity”, but I found them to be bass HEAVY and didn’t seat well in my ears despite switching out fittings.

2. Build Quality. All four pairs of the Apple headphones (iPod/iPhone default ear buds) I’ve owned have managed to fray, crackle and fail to play out of one ear. Sounds like a bad Rice Krispie commercial. Never again. I wanted to step up to quality and not have to look back. Being a headphone noob, I figured an over-the-ear set would do the trick, but some of the ones I looked into didn’t have fully-rotating ears or detachable plugs that would prevent unexpected catastrophes.

3. Portability This is where the over-the-ear sets really went out the window (obviously). I carry a boatload of camera gear everywhere I go so the last thing I really wanted was a set of headphones that took up precious space in any of my bags (or a free hand). It’s super convenient to have these in my pocket where I can upload some video files quickly for a quick audio check.

4. The X-Factor When I buy something, it’s always easier to justify if it has the “x-factor”. And while we are still far from being the most eco-friendly species on the planet, why not start making more of an effort to buy products that encourage it while we are still learning? And c’mon…how can you NOT think these are downright sexy looking headphones?? Double the x-factor? I’ll take it!

Thinksound Rain (The Highlight Reel). Thinksound™ rain headphones were designed with true audiophiles in mind. These powerful, environmentally-friendly earbuds feature a 9mm high-definition driver that makes your favorite music “not just crisp, but downright orchestral-sounding” (Boston Phoenix).

The same attention to detail is showcased on the outside, with PVC-Free cables and a hand-crafted wooden housing that doesn’t just look good, but enhances performance, creating a sound that’s “less digital and a little more natural than what you’d get from standard earbuds made of metal or plastic” (Beatweek Magazine).

Offered in a rich Chocolate/Black or Cherry/Silver finish, thinksound™ rain headphones are compatible with iPod, iPhone, and other portable audio/media devices. Every pair comes with a cotton carrying pouch, and four sets of ear fittings to ensure a perfect fit. As with all of our products, thinksound™ rain headphones come with a one (1) year warranty.

Consider it Sold. As if the sound, build quality and green-mindedness weren’t enough reason for you to fork your credit card over already, the fact that they currently have their TS01 and Rain headphones ON SALE should definitely be. For that price, they are right in the money range of Apple’s gloriously dismal iPhone/iPod ‘buds, so the choice is easy.

Ultimately, Thinksound is what I’d like to call a “naturally smart” company – taking our thinking of what should be done for the environment to what CAN be done…all wrapped up in a beautiful, well-engineered product. I’ll definitely be rocking these for a long time!
