SEMA 2016

If you need any excuse to walk more than 100,000 steps in a handful of days, SEMA is as good as any. This year, we headed out West to take in the sights of the infamous automotive convention, take some meetings, and get some shooting done. It also turned into an opportune time to bust out our newly acquired DJI Osmo camera. One of the days, I put down the SLR and piloted the mini cam around to some exciting results. Check it out below:

At any rate, it was an amazing time catching up with old friends, making new ones, flexing our creative muscles behind the camera, and probably dropping about 10lbs overall from walking adventures. I found myself gravitated towards Rob Ida’s INCREDIBLE Porsche 930 Turbo—and apparently, so did some of my friends.

Stanceworks Ford Focus RS

I loved the livery scheme on the Stanceworks Focus RS. It continues to amaze me at how they continually bring something fresh to the table after all these years—so many companies nowadays don’t continue to innovate and have fallen into routine—Stanceworks continues to be THE definitive exception.

Griot's Garage "DetailWagen"

Maybe it’s because a large part of me is much more interested in vintage platforms versus anything new, but my goodness this “DetailWagen” was an incredible surprise. I’m pretty sure I was dragging my jaw across the concrete seeing the immaculate V8 under the hood amongst all its perfect proportions.

Chris Marion's KW Classic Porsche 911

Another refreshing sight was this KW-equipped Porsche 911. Everything about it was so properly executed…period correct if you will, but with modern touches and nods that make me thoroughly pleased with the end result.

BMW Moto GP M2 Safety Car

I was actually surprised that there weren’t more M2’s at the show, but I suppose its limited production numbers may have something to do with that. At any rate, the safety car was one of my more preferred examples—it’s always great to see a manufacturer putting together a car to perfect spec right from the factory. And as Clarkson said, this is “the best M car BMW has ever made”. I’m not sure I wholeheartedly agree, but of the modern lineup, it’s the easy choice.

Ferrari-Swapped FRS "4586"

On the complete other end of the coin is this Ferrari-swapped Scion FRS. I’m not sure what else needs to be said…there’s a FERRARI ENGINE in an FRS. Pretty cool.

AirLift Performance 964 and E30 M3

As far as booths were concerned, AirLift actually hooked up their new controllers to the 964 and E30 M3 so that visitors could actually raise and lower the cars to their liking. Pretty cool to see such an interactive demo on these iconic cars.

2016 Automotive Demo Reel

We’ve been feeling a little nostalgic of late and while a few of our hard drives were getting backed up, we thought it was a good a time as any to celebrate our proud video and animation work within the automotive industry!

Admittedly, it’s long overdue (like every video reel), but we feel incredibly lucky to have worked with some of the best in the business—thank you all sincerely and we look forward to creating some great work together for years to come.

Video: Carbon and Smoke

After shooting mass market release photos for Carbon Revolution, we had the opportunity to put together a video to tease the new carbon fiber CR-9–the wheel for the incredible Ford GT40. Up until recently, this very special all-carbon fiber wheel wasn’t available to the mass market, but they have begun to slowly roll them out for specific applications like the BMW M3 / M4, M2, GTR, and various Porsche 911 models.

At any rate, we feel privileged for the opportunity to get our hands on these wheels—they are truly spectacular in person! Though admittedly, it was a little nerve-wracking to handle such an expensive wheel around the studio for too long haha. Anyway, big thanks for Carbon Rev for the opportunity and we can’t wait to work with you more in the near future!

ChiroFit Barrington – Humanizing Chiropractic Care

After putting together an edit a couple years ago, for ChiroFit Barrington, we got a call to pen a new video marketing campaign to help not only showcase all the new things at their practice, but also reach some clients that may have lapsed in their treatment plans over the past couple months.

Although those two aims sounded like viable options, we wanted to really paint a more well-rounded picture for their clinic. We took the opportunity to visit and get a grand tour of how things have changed—it was quite an enormous transformation from the last time we set our cameras up, which was incredible to see. We’ve had some background working for medical clients and one of the biggest things we’ve tried to combat is, well, everything that traditional medical marketing represents.

When it comes to medicine, our goal has always been to humanize the experience—to really reach patients who are often nervous, ill-informed, or just curious about the clinic—without using heavy, medical jargon to get our clients’ points across. After a healthy month of research—picking chiropractic and physical therapy brains—we felt confident in pitching a whole new video series that could be utilized across a variety of platforms.

As aforementioned, patient drop-off and initial apprehension were some of the big areas to tackle right from the get-go, but we also wanted to take the time to get to know the staff on a deeper level. With ChiroFit’s blessing, we came in for a series of three film days to capture the clinic’s culture and delve into the personalities behind one of the more proactive and forward-thinking practices we’ve been lucky enough to call clients. It’s our goal to produce eight to ten videos from these sessions and continually refine and consult their clinic on how to reach their audience more proficiently and collectively via social media, web, and e-mail.

Without further delay, here are the first three videos we produced:

Much more to come from our work with ChiroFit, but we couldn’t be happier to see how everything is turning out so far!

Make: A Documentary

I came across a trailer for this documentary on FStoppers today and thought it was a really refreshing take on creativity. Often times you see films like this get so drawn out about the creative process—it tends to come off as more of a rant session than something inspiring. This documentary, though, feels quite different.Continue Reading

Bimmerfest 2016: Photos + Video

Packing is always a bit of a chore—a wrestling between the equipment I want to bring and the clothes that I need to wear on the trip. I made plenty of gear concessions in light of this 50/50 balance, but it was a nice personal challenge to shoot photos of an entire show with oneContinue Reading

Photo + Video: Mama Tried 2016

Over the weekend, I met up a couple friends in Milwaukee for the Mama Tried Motorcycle Show. The “Mama Tried Motorcycle Show is an indoor invitational showcasing honest, homebuilt and unusual bikes from the Midwest” and I thought it’d give me a unique perspective to explore, capture, and gather some inspiration for future projects. IContinue Reading

Our Favorite Super Bowl 50 Commercial

I’ll have to admit, football isn’t my favorite sport—in fact, this year I missed the Super Bowl altogether. But nevertheless, I have always been a fan of dissecting the 7-figure ads that run throughout the game. This year, I was pleasantly surprised to discover one that really piqued our interest—one spawned by the Israeli illustratorContinue Reading

Behind the Scenes, In Front of the Lens

I’ve been spending time at eFab Motorsports a lot lately in light of getting together media for the new website we’re building for them, as well as getting some work done on Project Aubergine. Last week I had the chance to switch out of photo mode and start recording some video—this chapter to show aContinue Reading

Welcoming Autumn with Adrenaline

This past Sunday we joined Chicago Rally on their last drive of the year—aptly called the Fall Color Run. Indeed, Mother Nature has begun showing us her less automotive-friendly side, but we were lucky to snag one of the last few good ones for this 300-mile hike into Wisconsin. Our day began in familiar fashion,Continue Reading
